The Sayano–Shushenskaya Dam is located on the Yenisei River, near Sayanogorsk in Khakassia, Russia. It is the largest hydroelectric power plant in Russia and the ninth largest hydroelectric power plant in the world by average power generation. It provides more than a quarter of RusHydro’s generation capacity.
The station is the largest one contributing to peak consumption in the Unified Energy Systems of Russia and Siberia. More than 70% of generated electrical power goes to Rusal’s four smelters in Siberia.
Unfortunately, the dam has gone through four accidents in history-1979 accident, 1985 accident, 1988 accident and 2009 accident. Construction safety is an extremely critical factor to judge the economic or social value, on the contrary, an accident will bring in huge loss of labor and material resources and even great cause casualties and property losses.
Rock anchoring system is an effective and safe anchorage method. It has a unique advantage in the disaster treatment of the dam rebuilding because of the features of integrating drilling, grouting and anchoring functions in one simple operation. Rock anchoring technology has a very good, efficient, safe and reliable anchoring effect under complex and difficult conditions, such as broken rock, loose soil and the conditions which are difficult to drill holes. Meanwhile, it will reduce the construction cost, simplify the construction procedure and ensure the construction safety. More and more actual practices of rock anchor in dam construction and dam rebuilding have provided a good reference for the disaster treatment in future.
